Life Legacy


Ocasio Rivera, age 79, a resident of Lowell for over 45 years, died on Wednesday, March 12th 2008, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell following an extended illness. For 40 years, he was the beloved husband of Maria A. (Roman) Rivera.

He was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on April 2nd, 1928, son of the late Ramon Rivera Cruz and Arcelia Rivera.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former Clay Home Folding Box Co. of Lowell for 16 years.

He was a communicant of the former Nuestra Senora del Carmen Parish, and later St. Patrick's Parish in Lowell.

According to the family, he enjoyed the outdoors and walking many places, and frequently visited Shedd Park.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and their spouses: Pablo Rivera and his companion Maria of Holyoke, MA, Sixfredy "Freddy" Rivera and his wife Lydia Rivera of Concord, NH, Edwin Rivera and his fiancee Amanda of Nashua; three daughters and their spouses: Milagros Rivera and her companion Hector of Lowell, Saida Navarro and her husband Jose Navarro of Lowell, Aixsa Rivera and her companion Carlos of Puerto Rico; 20 grandchildren: Pablo Jr., Alicia, Rafael, Margarita, Javier, Dianna, Janiel, Lydia, Ismael, Anamaris, Isabella, Christopher, Jayson, Kevin, Yazmin, Kassandra, Jose Jr., Jeanette, Aixsa and Alexia; four brothers: Virgilio Rivera, Angel Luis Rivera, Jose A. Rivera and Monserrate Rivera; three sisters: Ramona Flores, Juana Rivera and Carmen L. Cruz; also several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was the brother of the late Marcelino Rivera, Rafael Rivera, Ramon Rivera, Jr., and Manuel A. Rivera.

Visiting Hours will be held at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 & 16 from 2 to 5pm. Funeral Monday morning with Procession Gathering at the Funeral Home at 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 Noon at St. Patrick's Church. Interment to follow at Westlawn II Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to help defray funeral costs.
